I would like to congratulate our 3.0 ladies’ team, “Highly Strung”, for finishing first in their flight and advancing on to the City Tournament.
Saturday the ladies had a close match with a team out of Longcreek, but went on to win 3-2 in matches. Ruth Rayman/Cindy DePalma won #1 doubles in 2 sets. Linda Reed won the #1 singles in a 3rd set tiebreaker, and Marie Ouellet won #2 singles in 2 sets. In the meantime, the #2 doubles (Anna Petitgout/Becky Marchi) and #3 doubles (Sissy Childress/Jennie Flanders) did not lose without a battle. They only fell short by a few points, both finishing in 3rd set tiebreakers.
Sunday morning they went on to face a tough Greenview team. They finished with a 4-1 victory, but that came with a lot of hard fought battles ending in 3rd set tiebreakers. #1 singles (Linda Reed), #1 doubles (Anna Petitgout/Laurie Narboni) and #2 doubles (Ruth Rayman/Cindy DePalma) came out on top winning their 3rd set tiebreakers. Becky Marchi/Margaret Glassman had a smooth victory at #3 doubles, while Marie Ouellet had a tough loss at #2 singles.
Sunday afternoon, the ladies faced the toughest team of the season in the finals of the City tournament. This team out of Columbia Tennis Center won the State Championship title in the Spring Season. We lost all 5 matches but very close battles. These ladies fought hard, and I am proud of all of their efforts. They ended the season as the 2nd place team in the entire city of Columbia. What a great season you all had! Thanks to Becky Marchi and Margaret Glassman for their hard work as captains, and thanks to all the teammates for making it such a wonderful season. Keep up the hard work!!
